The passenger terminal building can now accommodate 300 passengers, from the previous 100

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will hold an inauguration ceremony for the newly rehabilitated passenger terminal building of the Virac Airport on Friday, June 1.

The rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building began in 2016. Additional retrofitting for stability purposes was done in May 2016 and further rehabilitation took place following Typhoon Nina (Nock-ten), which struck in December 2016.

The work on the passenger terminal building was eventually completed on May 14 this year.

The building can now accommodate 300 passengers, from the previous 100, with expansions made for the ground floor and second floor pre-departure areas.

The arrivals area was also improved.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Transportation Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, and CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco are set to lead the ceremony on Friday.

Catanduanes Representative Cesar Sarmiento, Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua, and Virac Mayor Samuel Laynes will also be present.
