MANILA, Philippines – Out of 300 berths available, Alphaland Marina Club (AMC) at the Manila Bay has had 70 reservations.

Mario Oreta, president and director of Alphaland Corp., said that they are seeing demand, even if it’s growing at a slow pace.

“To reserve a berth, there are different prices depending on the size. Since there’s no other alternative, members are very serious about reserving berths for their yachts,” said Oreta on the sidelines of the company’s stockholders’ meeting on Tuesday, April 2.

Alphaland chair Roberto V. Ongpin, the country’s 11th richest, has envisioned the P2-billion Marina Club to become the country’s biggest yacht club, which will cater to Filipino and foreign boat lovers. Ongpin had said that some of over 500 Filipino boat owners are forced to berth their boats abroad due to limited berthing capacity in the country.

Marina Club is a members-only marina located in Parañaque City, near SM Mall of Asia and the Pagcor Entertainment City, which will host 4 casino-entertainment complexes.

Alphaland executives said that they are on track to open the whole facility by May 2014.

The Marina Club is divided into 4 projects: the 900-meter breakwater (enclosing 8 hectares of water), the marina floating piers, anchor piles, and the club house.

This high-end development is coming on stream along with Alphaland’s other developments, including its 3-tower Alphaland Makati Place that will have a sports club and a mall; the P4-billlion members-only Balesin Island Club in Quezon province, and the P10-billion 500-hectare Boracay Gateway. – Rappler.com
