MANILA, Philipines – A chartered plane carrying 75 passengers, including Health Secretary Enrique Ona, overshot the runway on Balesin Island in Quezon on Saturday, October 19.

On board the flight were Ona, RCBC president Lorenzo Tan, RCBC chairwoman Helen Yuchengco-Dee and 72 others, including crew members.

The BAE-146 200 aircraft sustained damage to its nosegear but all passengers emerged from the flight unscathed.

Developer Alphaland Corp. regularly charters flights for members of the Balesin Island Club.

Despite the mishap, flights to and from the island will continue without interruption, Joanna Duarte, Alphaland senior vice president for sales and marketing, said in a statement.

This was the second air mishap the country recorded in a month.

On September 19, a Cessna Citation jet hit a man on a motorcyle during landing at the Ozamis Agricultural Development Inc. (OADI) airport in Bukidnon.

(Ed’s note: We earlier reported that the Bukidnon airport incident happened on October 17. We regret the error.)

The motorcyle was reportedly crossing the runway when the jet carrying 4 passengers was about to touch down. The man was cut in half and was killed on the spot.

The OADI airport served as an airfield of the US Air Force during World War II. OADI is also presently operating a sugar plantation – Rappler.com
