MANILA, Philippines – Even with an intensified campaign against tax cheats, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) continued to miss its target this year, as it announced revenue collections totalling P82.18 billion ($1.84 billion) for March.

The amount is is 9.82% more than its March 2013 collection but is still below target. 

The BIR said in a statement that it collected P78.91 billion ($1.77 billion) from BIR operations, which is 9.66% higher year on year, and P3.27 billion ($73.3 million) from non-BIR operations – 13.98% more than last year.

Revenue collections of regional offices improved by 10.03% over the period, for a total collection of P31.79 billion ($713.3 million).

The Large Taxpayer Service collected P47.12 Billion ($1.06 billion), which is 9.41% more than collections in March last year.
