MANILA, Philippines – Legacy carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced it is starting its chartered flights between Manila and the Russian city of Vladivostok starting Sunday, October 27.

The chartered flights are meant to address the “growing tourist arrivals from Russia,” PAL said in a statement on Saturday, October 26.

About 21,736 Russians visited the Philippines in the first 8 months of 2013, representing a 32.53% increase (compared to the same period in 2012) in the number of Russian tourists visiting various local destinations.

“We recognize the growing demand from Russian tourists for a direct air link to the Philippines,” PAL President Ramon Ang said in the statement.

PAL has partnered with Primorsky Agency of Aviation Companies TM Biletur, the biggest tour company in Far East Russia, for its chartered flights.

The first flight from Vladivostok departs at 8 am Russian time, arriving in Manila at 9:30 am October 27. Its return flight leaves Manila at 11 pm on Thursday, November 7, arriving in Vladivostok at 6:30 am.

Chartered flights to and from the two cities will be scheduled throughout the year.

The Philippine air negotiating panel was set to hold bilateral talks with Russia in October after PAL expressed interest in flying there. – Rappler.com
