LIST: Power outages due to Typhoon Nona

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said on Thursday, December 17 that it continues to monitor and inspect transmission lines and other facilities affected by then Typhoon Nona (international name Melor).

It added that the loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of the NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives.

“Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned distribution utilities, unless the outage affects the entire franchise area,” the NGCP said.

As of 7 pm Thursday, the NGCP said the following transmission lines and facilities are affected by the typhoon:

Luzon

• Sorsogon-Irosin 69kV line
• Customer/s affected: SORECO I, SORECO II
• Franchise area: Bulan, Matnog, Sta. Magdalena, Irosin, Bulusan, Juban, Casiguran, Magallanes, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Barcelona

The NGCP said necessary preparations and precautions were implemented to minimize the impact of the typhoon on the company’s operation and facilities.

“These include ensuring the availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas, to facilitate immediate restoration work,” it added.

Tropical Depression Onyok is now in the country, heading for Mindanao and posing a threat to the Caraga region.– Rappler.com
