FamilyMart to franchise out stores this year
Want to own a FamilyMart store? Get a franchise this year

MANILA, Philippines – FamilyMart will start franchising out its convenience stores by the end of 2014 to accelerate its expansion throughout the country.

Since it opened its first store in Glorietta 3 in Makati City in April 2013, the Japan-based brand has been aggressively expanding its footprint in the Philippines.

Anton Huang, president of Philippine FamilyMart and SSI Group Inc., said franchising would hasten the company’s store rollout and offer opportunities to hundreds of families and individual entrepreneurs who have been looking for ways to go into business.

“We will provide all out support to ensure that their business is properly run. We want them to succeed because their success is ours as well,” Huang said.

The franchise details are still being worked out, Huang added.

FamilyMart opened 31 stores in 2013 and targets to end 2014 with 90 to 100 stores.

The FamilyMart brand operates in the Philippines under SIAL CVS Retailers Inc., a joint venture firm equally owned by leading specialty store retailer SSI and Ayala Land Inc.

Huang said SSI’s long experience in building brands in the country helped the FamilyMart brand gain a distinct position in the market.

“From a virtually unknown brand, FamilyMart has now become a recognizable brand that has ushered in a new convenience store lifestyle,” Huang said.

Established in Japan in the 1970s, FamilyMart is currently the world’s second largest convenience store chain with more than 22,000 branches worldwide. It is present in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, US, and the Philippines. – Rappler.com
