#RubyPH cuts power lines in Southern Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines (5^th UPDATE) – More power lines were brought down by Typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported on Sunday, December 7.

In its 2 pm bulletin, the NGCP said the following transmission lines and facilities are so far affected by the typhoon:

Other facilities affected by the typhoon are:

1.  Ormoc-Cabacungan 350-kV HVDC Line
2. Daanbantayan-Tabango Submarine Cable 230-kV Line 2
3. Tabango-Kananga 230-kV Line 1
4. Ormoc-Tongonan 138-kV Line
5. Babatngon-Paranas 138-kV Line
6. Compostela-Daanbantayan 230kV Line 2
7. Ubay-Maasin Submarine Cable 138-kV Line

“Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned distribution utilities, unless the outage affects the entire franchise area,” the NGCP said.

Netizens also reported power outages in Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Ormoc, Daraga in Albay, Pangpang in Northern Samar, Milagros in Masbate City, Roxas City, Macrohon in Southern Leyte and Iloilo City.

In an earlier report, Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla said distribution lines, which source power from transmission lines, are vulnerable to strong winds and rain, and are at high risk under Typhoon Ruby.

Petilla promised to restore electricity “as quickly as possible.” The NGCP said restoration measures will start as soon as the weather permits. – Rappler.com
