MANILA, Philippines – Budding film screenplay writers may get their chance to shine now that the Film Development Council of the Philippines has launched its “‘Genre’ Film Scriptwriting Contest.”
The nationwide competition will select the 12 best screenplays from the entries. FDCP will forge a co-production agreement with independent producers, film studios and the film divisions of television networks to bring the scripts to the big screen.
FDCP reserves the right to choose the director tasked with interpreting the scripts.
The finished films will then be screened at the “Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival” in June 2014 under the sub-event, “The Masters ‘Genre’ Film Festival.”
As its name suggests, the film festival will feature films under the genres comedy, horror, action, fantasy, thriller, futuristic or a hybrid of two or 3 of these. Thus, contest applicants must submit screenplays that conform to these genres.
Winners will receive cash prizes: the writers of the top 6 scripts will receive P200,000 while the writers of the remaining 6 scripts will receive P100,000.
Deadline for submissions in on Sept 30, 2013. Winners will be announced in December. – Rappler.com
