The 'Captain America' star is launched as Philippine telco Smart's latest endorser

He was one of the core characters in a multimillion dollar cinematic universe and founded a platform that wants to overcome bipartisanship in America.

But if you ask actor Chris Evans about his “smartest” decision yet, the answer isn’t in any of those on-cam and off-cam projects: it’s Dodger, his adorable pet dog.

“The smartest thing I have ever done was adopt my dog Dodger. I was filming a movie in Savannah, Georgia and we shot a scene at a shelter and he was there and I wasn’t planning on adopting a dog but I went for it and so far? Best decision I ever made,” said Chris in video aired on March 8, Monday, during a media event to introduce him as Philippine telco Smart’s latest endorser.

Dodger, of course, is an adorable shelter dog he adopted while filming the 2017 film Gifted.

The adorable pup, who recently had to get hip replacement surgery, features prominently in Chris’ Instagram feed.

Evans, who played Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the face of Smart’s “Live Smarter for a Better World,” a campaign that wants to “inspire people to commit to sustainable actions with lasting, positive impact to society.”

Since hanging up his shield in Avengers: Endgame, the actor has been busy with projects both on and off-cam.

Chris co-founded “A Starting Point,” a platform that features interviews with personalities from both sides of the American political spectrum. He also endorsed now-President Joe Biden during the 2020 elections. He recently starred in the critically-acclaimed Knives Out

“I’ve always liked the idea of working with a company in the Philippines. It’s a great part of the world and SMART felt like a very forward thinking company so it felt like a good fit,” said Chris in the video.

The actor, who has never been to the Philippines, said he “can’t wait to visit” – presumably once conditions are safer. A Philippine visit doesn’t seem to be part of his contract with Smart.

Chris joins a growing list of Smart’s international endorsers. In 2020, Korean star Hyun Bin introduced Smart’s latest campaign, “Simple. Smart Ako.” He was later joined by Crash Landing on You co-star and real-life partner Son Ye-jin, who was introduced as the face of the brand’s postpaid lines.

Smart later announced Park Seo-joon as the star of another campaign, while BTS was announced in 2021 as the face of its “Live Smarter, Live With Purpose” campaign.

The brand has also tapped Filipino band Ben&Ben as its endorsers. – Rappler.com
