Janine Gutierrez as Valentina in ‘Darna?’ ‘We’ll see,’ says actress

Janine Gutierrez played coy on Tuesday, February 2, when asked if she’d be playing – or was open to play – Valentina, the mortal enemy of Darna, in the upcoming ABS-CBN series.

Janine’s name has been often mentioned by fans as a possible pick to play the iconic villain after she signed a contract with ABS-CBN.

During her first press conference as an ABS-CBN artist on Tuesday, Janine was asked if she is willing to play the role if it was offered to her.

“Ano yon (What’s that)? It’s so interesting to me. Of course, I am a fan of Darna. I’m a fan of all the old films,” she said.

“Actually, may napanood ako before na yung lola ko (Pilita Corrales) nag-Valentina eh…para nung bata ako,” she said, referring to the 1994 film Darna Ang Pagbabalik starring Anjanette Abayari.

(Actually, I think I was able to see a film of my grandmother as Valentina when I was a kid.)

“So it’s interesting at s’yempre flattered ako na nakikita ako ng ibang tao na mapasama ako sa ganung klaseng proyekto. So I don’t know, we’ll see.”

(So it’s interesting and of course, I’m flattered that people think I’m fit for the project. So I don’t know, we’ll see.)

In December, ABS-CBN chief operating officer Cory Vidanes confirmed that a Darna TV series is in the works, starring Jane de Leon. The adaptation was supposed to be a movie, but this was scrapped after several delays.

ABS-CBN has yet to announce other details about the Darna series, including the rest of its cast and its director. Jerrold Tarog, who was set to direct the movie, confirmed that he won’t be part of the TV series.

Janine already has several projects lined up in ABS-CBN, including a yet-to-be-revealed series

“Well ang sure for now is that I am going to be in ASAP Natin To, so I am very excited about that. And in the very near future, isang teleserye which, of course I can’t say much about it yet, but excited ako just the fact na meron akong gagawin teleserye and pelikula sa ABS-CBN.”

(And in the near future, a teleserye, which of course I can’t say much about it yet but I am excited just the fact I will be doing a teleserye and film with ABS-CBN.)

Janine has several movies in the pipeline, including a movie with Paulo Avelino and another with JC Santos. ABS-CBN announced Janine as its newest star on January 15. Before this, Janine was a GMA talent. – Alexa Villano/Rappler.com
