Alden Ehrenreich to play young Han Solo in 'Star Wars' spin-off – reports
MANILA, Philippines – Harrison Ford helped turn Star Wars character Hans Solo into a cultural icon. Now, up-and-coming actor Alden Ehrenreich is set to star as a younger version of the fan-favorite space smuggler in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off, as reported by media outlets Deadline and Page Six.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 2,500 young actors auditioned for the role, and Taron Egerton, Jack Reynor, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Emory Cohen were also among those reported to be considered for the role.
Alden has recently appeared in the Coen brothers' Hail, Caesar! with George Clooney and Jennifer Aniston, and possibly soon in an untitled biopic written and directed by Warren Beatty.
Han Solo was originally played by Harrison Ford in Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and recently, The Force Awakens.
The Han Solo film will be directed by duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and with a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son, Jon.
As quoted by Empire magazine, the elder Kasdan described the upcoming movie: "It will not be, 'Here’s where he was born and this is how he was raised.' I think what it will be is, 'What was he like 10 years earlier?' [...] But Akira Kurosawa once said the heroes are the ones that are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they are."
On the special occasion of Star Wars Day, May the 4th, Christopher teased with an image of Han Solo's blaster pistol, which might be one of the first glimpses into the production:
The film is set to hit US cinemas on May 25, 2018. – Rappler.com
