MANILA, Philippines – Fans of the iconic Jem and the Holograms cartoon from the ‘80s, you can stop holding your breath. The main cast for the upcoming flick has been revealed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Aubrey Peeples, best known for her role in Nashville, has been cast in the lead as Jem.
As for Jem’s bandmates, those blanks have been filled, too. Stefanie Scott will play Jem’s sister Kimber, while Aurora Perrineau will play Shana. Hayley Kioko will play Aja.
Director Jon M. Chu also confirmed via Twitter that Nathan Moore will join the cast as Zipper. In the original series, Zipper worked for big bad Eric Raymond.

The popular ‘80s cartoon, which ran from 1985 to 1988, told the story of Jerrica Benton, owner of Starlight Music, who can change her appearance with holograms via a device called Synergy. With a touch of her special earrings, Jerrica becomes the glamorous Jem (hence the name of the show, Jem and the Holograms).
Aubrey Peeples has been giving fans a look into the movie-making process via Instagram, where she often posts photos with the hashtag #jemthemovie.
The social media component is apparent here as well – the movie has a Tumblr account which encourages fans to ask questions about the movies and submit fan-made photos and videos.
One more thing we’re looking out for? How the iconic looks from the ‘80s will be interpreted in this new movie version. The department head for makeup, Mary Klimek, has also been showing fans sneak peeks of the makeup used to create the bright, youthful looks that define each character.
