‘Sharkboy and Lavagirl’ sequel coming to Netflix

If you remember 2005’s 3D fantasy adventure film, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, then you’re in for a nostalgic treat – a sequel is heading to Netflix 15 years later.

The sequel is called We Can Be Heroes, and will premiere on Netflix globally on January 1, 2021.

This New Year's Day, get ready for the next generation heroes.

Original Lavagirl actress Taylor Dooley will be reprising her role, but unfortunately, Taylor Lautner, who played Sharkboy, didn’t sign up to return. Actor JJ Dashnaw will be playing Sharkboy, instead.

Netflix shared a few sneak peek photos on Twitter on Thursday, November 19, as well as a short teaser.

The sequel shows Sharkboy and Lavagirl as parents to daughter Guppy, who is played by Vivien Lyra Blair (Girl from Bird Box). She is among other superhero kids who are kept by a sinister caretaker, Ms Granada (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), after their superhero parents were kidnapped by alien invaders. Missy Moreno (Yaya Gosselin) tries to save her superhero dad Marcus Moreno (Pedro Pascal), with the help of the other super kids.

We Can Be Heroes is directed by Robert Rodriguez, who did the first film, as well as Spy Kids. The film also stars Boyd Holbrook, Christian Slater, Chris McDonald, and Adriana Barraza. – Rappler.com
