‘The Exorcist’ sequel is coming

Sorry, but your Exorcist nightmares aren’t over – a sequel to the 1973 horror cult classic The Exorcist is on its way.

According to a Variety report, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Productions are handling the sequel, with Halloween director David Gordon Green in talks to take the helm. No production date has been confirmed yet.

Green is the writer, producer, and director of the recent Halloween films – 2018’s Halloween starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle, the upcoming 2021 Halloween Kills sequel, and Halloween Ends.

A 2021 reboot for The Exorcist was previously announced in August 2020 by Morgan Creek Entertainment, but plans may have changed since then. The Exorcist director William Friedkin clarified on December 17 that he wouldn’t be involved in the new project.

The Exorcist was based on the 1971 supernatural horror novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The Oscar-nominated film starred Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, and Linda Blair, who played 12-year-old Regan MacNeil, the victim of a demonic possession that her mother and two priests try to save her from.
