Anyone who’s had the privilege of an internet connection and a streaming device would know that much of 2020 – more so than the year prior — was spent streaming movies online, particularly through services like Netflix. According to the streaming giant, viewing went up across all genres, compared to 2019.

The list of top titles per genre according to Netflix Philippines are:

  • Comedy: Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap
  • Kids & Family: Over The Moon
  • Action: Extraction
  • Thriller: Money Heist: Part 4

Romance titles, in particular, saw a 400% increase in viewership in 2020, according to Netflix Philippines. Titles like The Kissing Booth 2, The Princess Switch: Switched Again and To All The Boys P.S. I Still Love You, Start-Up, Crazy Rich Asians, Once Before, The Hows of Us, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, Alter Me, and Just a Stranger were among those that Netflix highlighted.

Trailing Enola Holmes as the top drama title were On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets, The Queen’s Gambit, Ordinary People, 21 Bridges, How She Let Me, Unforgettable, Cuddle Weather and Lucifer: Season 5. Netflix Philippines said drama went up over 150%.

K-drama viewership went up by more than 350% compared to 2019 (is that ever a surprise?). Top titles aside from The King: Eternal Monarch include Kingdom: Season 2, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (which was in the Top 10 of Netflix Philippines for 103 days – its most enduring title), Itaewon Class, Start-Up, The World of the Married, Record of Youth, Extracurricular, The School Nurse Files, VIP and Hi Bye, Mama!
