‘Pangako Sa ‘Yo’ finale recap: Yna and Angelo’s happy ending

MANILA, Philippines – The hit TV series Pangako Sa ‘Yo, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla ended on Friday, February 12.

The dramatic finale saw many loose ends tied up, with Angelo (Daniel Padilla) and Yna’s (Kathyrn Bernardo) love story coming to a close.

Spoiler warning: If you don’t want to know what happens in the finale, read no further.

Before the finale, the couple found out that they weren’t brother and sister as the had originally thought – Angelo’s dad wasn’t Eduardo (Ian Veneracion), but Simon (Alex Medina), his mother’s former lover.

One more thing stood in the way of their happy ending, though – Claudia’s hatred of Yna and her mom, Amor Powers (Jodi Sta Maria). Not only did Eduardo leave Claudia for Amor, but her son Angelo was also in love with Yna.

Claudia was set on killing Yna and Amor, but in the final episode of the series, Angelo stops her.

However, in a gun fight, Mark (Dominic Roque), Amor’s former ally, shoots both Claudia and Angelo. 

Angelo survives, and professes his love for Yna. “You are my purpose. I love you,” Angelo professes in an ambulance. “Yna, hindi pa ‘ko pwede mamatay (I can’t die yet),” Angelo added after Yna thought he had died. “Magiging magkasama pa tayo (We’re still going to be together).”

Claudia survives too, but the encounter leaves her vision impaired. A blind Claudia ends up changed but in jail – she admits to all her wrongdoings and apologizes to everyone she’s hurt, including Amor.

In a tearful speech in court, Claudia said that she changed her perspective the moment she saw Angelo was hurt. “Nung nabaril ka anak, doon ko nalaman kung gaano ka kahalaga sa akin. Mas mahalaga sa galit, mas mahalaga sa paghihiganti. Mas mahalaga ka kaysa sa sarili ko.”

(When you were shot, son, that’s when I knew how important you were to me. More important than anger, more important than revenge. You’re more important than my own life.)

Amor ends up changed too, and married to Eduardo, her long-time love and the father of Yna. Coming full circle, Eduardo puts the necklace he gave her in the beginning of the series – which spells out the word “Ynamorata (the woman I love)” – around her neck. “I love you, Mrs Buenavista,” he declares. 

Angelo and Yna share a moment too, before Amor and Eduardo call them to lunch. All is well.
