Idris Elba addresses James Bond rumors

'If it was to happen it would be the will of a nation,' says Idris on fans' insistence that he will be the next James Bond

MANILA, Philippines – Idris Elba has been one of the fan favorites to play Agent 007 James Bond in the next film, but the actor says it’s nothing but a rumor.

“It is the wildest rumor in the world,” he told Good Morning America, adding that he hasn’t been in talks with anyone involved with the movie.

“I keep saying, though, if it was to happen it would be the will of a nation because there’s not been no talks between me and the studio about any of that. But everywhere I go people want that to happen, so.”

Idris even joked that at 43, he’s too old to play the character. “I think I’m too old for that man, I can’t be running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”

The actor has denied Bond rumors before, saying the same: that he isn’t in talks with studios and all the rumors are just rumors.

In an interview with the Daily Mail in August 2015, James Bond Trigger Mortis writer Anthony Horowitz said Idris was “too street” to play the role and his remark was met with criticism.

Anthony has since apologized, however, and Idris cheekily commented about it on social media: “Always Keep Smiling! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!”
