MANILA, Philippines – It was a big night for the films- Tuos, Pamilya Ordinaryo, and Mercury is Mine as they won the top awards in the full length film category at the Cinemalaya Awards on Sunday, August 14 held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Pamilya Ordinaryo scored 4 awards – Best Director for Eduardo Roy Jr, Netpac Special Jury Prize for full length, Best full length feature film, and Best Actress for Hasmine Killip. (FULL LIST: Winners, Cinemalaya 2016 awards night)
Mercury is Mine meanwhile won the Special Jury prize for full length and Best Screenplay. Tuos starring Nora Aunor on the other hand won the most number of technical awards.
In a touching moment, director Pamilya Ordinaryo director Eduardo Roy Jr dedicated the film to his dear friend the late filmmaker Francis Xavier Pasion, who died last March.
In an interview with reporters after the awards night, the director said that Francis would have loved to see the film. According to Eduardo, Francis wanted to watch the rough cut of the film before he died.
“Magiging masaya si Francis kasi sabay kaming nangarap eh. Sabay kaming nagsimula,” Eduardo said. “So magiging masaya iyon kapag nakita niya na nanalo ako. So sobra kong mahal kasi yung tao na iyon.“
(Francis would have been happy because both of us started dreaming together. We both started together. So he would be happy if he saw me win. I really love that guy.)
