MANILA, Philippines – Miss World 2013 Megan Young said she’s ready to help out in any way the Miss World Philippines organization, following the takeover by Arnold Vegafria as national director.

In January, the franchise was awarded to Arnold, after Cory Quirino announced she was giving it up after 6 years. 

In an interview with reporters after the press conference for the movie Our Mighty Yaya on Thursday, April 19, Megan, who is under Arnold’s ALV Talent Circuit, said that she is ready to assist in whatever capacity is needed.

“What’s great now is that I’m actually under ALV’s talent wing. So I’m under contract with ALV talents. And it’s really a plus factor na siya na yung (that he’s) national director ng Miss World Philippines. So, I also have a friend who is also in charge of operations of that and it’s been so great, kasi all of us are passionate about it,” Megan said.

“I’m really there to look out for the girls’… best interest, because sometimes you want a good show. You want great sponsors or whatnot. So my jobs is to make sure that, okay, what do the girls need?,” she said.”I was in their position [before]. So I know these are the things the girls need.”

“I would be that voice for the ladies. I would be there as friend to talk to. I don’t really consider myself a mentor. I’ve only been Miss World for a couple years back, so I want… to establish myself more and prove myself more. But I can definitely say that I’ll be there for them, if they have any questions, any inquiries about Miss World,” she said. 

Auditions in the US

Megan was also asked for updates about her plans in the US, after she signed a contract with Innovative Artists agency in New York in March. 

“Basta pupunta ako doon… I’m starting from zero, so don’t expect anything,” she said. “Parang I’m really starting from scratch. Kung meron, meron. Kung wala, at least I tried,” she said of her upcoming June trip.

(I will go there… I’m starting from zero, so don’t expect anything. I’m really starting from scratch. If there’s an opportunity, then there is. If there’s nothing, at least I tried.) 

“We have an agency. Pagdating ko doon (When I get there) for the summer, I’ll be doing workshops. Siyempre kasi mas sanay ako magsalita ng Tagalog or Taglish, so kailangan ko i-practice yung acting in English.” (Since I’m used to talking in Tagalog or Taglish, I need to practice acting in English.)

When asked how she feels about the possible opportunities now that she has an agency abroad, Megan said: ” [I’m] excited and scared. Siyempre hindi mo naman alam (Of course we don’t know what could happen)… and I’m only 27. Might as well try it out now na bata pa naman ako, hindi pa naman ako nag-aasawa, wala pa akong anak. So might as well try everything that I want to habang wala pa akong responsibility or obligasyon sa ibang tao.” (Might as well try it out now while I’m not married and don’t have kids yet. So might as well try everything that I want to while I have no responsibility or obligation to any person.)

She believes it’s all about right timing, since she was able to do things that she wants in the Philippines.

“One what inspired me was the opportunity… That was something to look forward to na, ‘ah okay,’ so parang that’s already a foot in the door, I would say. Next I would say I always wanted to try it out, but I felt like it wasn’t the right time or I wasn’t in the right mindset para gawin ito (to do it). So now that I’ve done a lot of things that i always wanted to do here, why not try somewhere else. There’s no harm,” she said.

Although she has an international title, Megan doesn’t think it’s an advantage, despite it being in her resume.

“I don’t think it will be an advantage na may (that I have an) international crown…. Kasi (because) at the end of the day, they choose who they want based on looks, based on skill, based on, you know, tama ba yung profile mo (if you have the right profile) for the character?

“As much as possible, I want to push it na hindi kasama yung title and hindi naman alam nila mga iyan siguro,” she said. (I want to push it without the title and I’m sure they won’t care about that.) – Rappler.com
