Matteo Guidicelli on his 2017 concert, new album
Matteo is set to take the stage for a major concert in Manila, titled 'Hey Matteo'

MANILA, Philippines – Following the success of his first major concert in Cebu, Matteo Guidicelli is once again taking center stage, this time in Manila, with Hey Matteo on November 30. The concert features a mix of his new songs from his forthcoming album of the same name, as well as covers of popular OPM songs.

In an interview with reporters for the concert’s press conference, Matteo shared that he has always been passionate about music but never had the chance to really focus on it. With his second album, the actor-singer promised fans that they would get to see a different, more honest, side of him once they hear his new music.

“I’m not trying to change my image. I’m just trying to be myself. You know in the showbiz industry, when you go in, you have to follow some pegs, you have to be a certain way.”

“I think after 10 years, I said to myself, ‘I want to do things [my way].’ I want to do this not just for myself but for other artists in the future. It’s just being more of me kumbaga, my own love story and my own life story. Hopefully it gives an impact to other people and hopefully it can help other people also.”

All of the songs in Matteo’s new album, which took almost year to make, were based on his personal life experiences. For example, the song “Hey” tells the story of a guy who’s courting a girl, despite knowing that her parents don’t approve. When asked if that particular song was inspired by his relationship with girlfriend Sarah Geronimo, Matteo just laughed and tried to avoid the question.

“When there’s something that challenges you and nahirapan ka talaga (you worked hard) for something, those are the things that are well deserved and worth it,” he later added.

Matteo’s also not afraid, nor looking, for competition. He’s just ready to pursue a dream and release an album that not only shows his true self but also inspires. Growing up listening to punk rock bands like Simple Plan, Matteo felt moved to release something similar.

“This is my second album but I feel like super brand new into it and I decided not to approach it with the millennial sound, like Chainsmokers, mga ganun. I told my producers that I really want to bring it back to the ’90s feel. Nineties banda (band) feel. A lot of organic real instruments in there.”

The Voice Philippines’ Morisette Amon and rapper Loonie will be Matteo’s special guests on the concert. Rather than the typical concert, usually involving big production numbers, Matteo said that the show focuses on him and his band.

I wanted the whole concert with Hey Matteo! – with an exclamation mark. The whole vibe is, I have a song, its called ‘Change.’ You already know what you want to do, you don’t want anybody to hold you back. So kung halimbawa, mahal mo ‘yung isang bagay, ‘yung trabaho, ‘yung passion mo (for example, you love something, your work, your passion), nobody’s gonna stop you from doing it. This concert and this show’s like breaking the walls and breaking the boundaries and just doing something different,” he said.
