Maid convicted in killing of film critics Alexis Tioseco, Nika Bohinc

MANILA, Philippines – A housemaid who worked for the late film critics Alexis Tioseco and Nika Bohinc was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of robbery with homicide, the Inquirer reported.

Criselda Dayag was sentenced by Judge Editha Mina-Aguba of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 100 on May 4.

She must also pay P350,000 to each of the couple’s heirs as civil indemnity and damages.

Another housemaid, who was locked in a room when the couple was shot dead on September 1, 2009, testified against Dayag, who was hired a month before the killings.

Another witness testified to have seen Dayag opening the gate for 3 other suspects involved in the robbery, and later leaving with them in Tioseco’s car.

The Quezon City Police District also found that Dayag used the same modus operandi on her previous employers, as she was facing a robbery case in a Pasay City court that had not yet been promulgated because she had been at large.

Dayag pleaded not guilty during her arraignment in March 2016, saying that the suspects took her to Pampanga to work as their maid, before she escaped.

Only one among the 3 other suspects still at large has been identified – Danny Lapitaje, whose fingerprints in a 2014 Antipolo City robbery were found to match those from Tioseco and Bohinc’s home in 2009. – Rappler.com
