ABC renews ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ for another two seasons
The longest-running medical TV drama will still be around for seasons 16 and 17

MANILA, Philippines – TV show creator Shonda Rhimes is unstoppable, and so is her hit medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, which has been formally renewed for two more seasons.

ABC announced on Friday, May 10, that the network ordered the long-running series to continue for another two seasons. Grey’s Anatomy is currently on its 15th season.

According to PeopleGrey’s, which premiered in March 2005, is now officially the longest-running medical drama series on US television, surpassing ER’s count at 332 episodes and counting.

“Obviously I never anticipated the show still being the number one show on the network,” Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr Meredith Grey on the show, shared to People in an interview.

“How do you walk away from a hit? The fans will dictate when the show ends. As much as we think we’re in control, we’re not. It’s the fans’ show at this point. They control how long the show goes,” she added.

Actor Jesse Williams, who plays Dr Jackson Avery, also took pride in the primetime series’ running length. “It’s a point of pride. I’m really proud of the show and the work that we do.”

“I think it’s easy to get kind of complacent when something has been on cruise control for so long. But it means a hell of a lot to a lot of people and it’s a pioneering show,” he added.

Grey’s Anatomy is a drama series that revolves around the professional and personal lives of medical interns, residents, and physicians at work and outside of it. – Rappler.com
