CeeLo Green apologizes for ‘idiotic’ Twitter comments about rape
The singer has since deleted the tweets, leaving an apology for the rape-related comments

MANILA, Philippines  –  Singer Cee Lo Green temporarily deleted his Twitter account, following a series of tweets about rape. The account was later restored without the rape-related comments, except for one apology.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the former The Voice judge wrote  that “women  who have ‘really been raped REMEMBER!!!” He also wrote “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent.”

Although the tweets have been deleted, many were able to take screengrabs.

Cee Lo apologized before deleting the tweets and temporarily removing his account. Screengrabs can be seen via Buzzfeed.

“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context.”

“I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it..”

“…was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you,” the tweet read.

On Friday, August 29, Cee Lo pleaded no contest to charges of giving a woman ecstasy, insisting he was innocent.

Green was accused of giving ecstasy to a 33-year-old woman without her knowledge while dining at a Los Angeles restaurant in July, 2012 before returning to the woman’s hotel.

Prosecutors did not charge him with rape of an intoxicated person, citing insufficient evidence.

Aside from being a former The Voice judge, Cee Lo is known for the  2006 hit song “Crazy” with Gnarls Barkley and Danger Mouse.

The singer has 5 Grammys including best traditional R and B performance and best R and B song for “Fool for You.” – with reports from Agence France-Presse/Rappler.com
