MANILA, Philippines – The second suspect accused in the killing of actress Cherry Pie Picache’s mother Zenaida Sison has denied any involvement in the case.
A report from ABS-CBN identified the man as Sherwin Ledesma alias “Weng,” who surrendered to the authorities of the National Bureau of Investigation Thursday, October 9. (READ: Suspect in slay of Cherry Pie Picache’s mom surrenders)
In the report, Ledesma said that he came to the NBI to clear his name, when the main suspect, Michael Flores, named him as the killer of actress’ mother. Ledesma denied that he killed the 75-year-old woman.
Ledesma however admitted that he worked for Sison in 2010 as a gardener and that he knew Flores, but stopped talking to him after a misunderstanding.
In an earlier interview, Flores said that he was among those who participated in ransacking the house of Sison but denied killing her. He said that he gave the knife to a “Kuya Weng” who killed Sison.
Meanwhile, another ABS-CBN report said that Flores confessed to killing Sison.
Flores was charged with robbery with homicide and qualified trespass to dwelling by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Intelligence and Detection Unit (CIDU) before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday, October 9.
In a 4-page extra-judicial confession done with assistance from a lawyer, Flores said he took drugs before going to Sison’s house at around 3 am on September 19. He said that entered the house forcefully and took jewelry, money, and Sison’s phone.
Sison woke up, saw him and screamed. He later used a piece of wood and knife to kill her.
In the affidavit, he said he had no companion when the crime was committed.
Flores also identified the pieces of clothing found by the police at the scene of the crime – a sweat shirt and pair of short pants – as his.
On Wednesday, October 8, police arrested Flores who was hiding in Laguna.
DZBB quoted Cherry Pie as saying that she was happy over the developments.
“Masaya sa nangyari (pagkaso kay Michael Flores) pero umpisa pa lang ito, conviction habol namin,” she said.
