MANILA, Philippines – A former lead singer of Rivermaya has joined The Voice of the Philippines.

In the blind auditions telecast on Sunday, November 23, Jason Fernandez, 25, sang Ang Huling El Bimbo by the Eraserheads. it was not until the song was about to end that Apl de ap pressed the button to face him.

 

 

When the other 3 coaches – Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo turned, Bamboo, himself a former vocalist of Rivermaya, was stunned when he saw him. 

“Can I see your ID please?” Bamboo joked when he saw Jason.

“You sang it the way it was suppose to be sung. But ako, hinahanap ko nga (what I am looking for) is how do you define yourself from the rest. We want you to bring it and ako, I want you to bring it so I’m rooting for you, man.”

Apl said: “I felt your voice, I felt your emotions and it gave me a lot of ideas, so we can really bring it in the next battle of the show.” 

Jason said he is grateful for the opportunity. 

Hindi ko sisirain yung tiwala na binigay ninyo sa akin,” he said. (I won’t break the trust you gave me.)

Bamboo shook his hand and hugged him after the auditions.
