The highlight came in the form of one Iggy Azalea’s big win, who said this was her “first award ever.”

One Direction, currently promoting their new album Four, took home the first award of the night, for Favorite Band, Duo or Group Pop/Rock, and also Favorite Album Pop/Rock. They also claimed the big Artist of the Year title.

Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Magic, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, among many others, performed. Lorde performed “Yellow Flicker Beat,” from the Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack, and was introduced by Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks.
