Mich Liggayu on Jam Sebastian cancer battle

MANILA, Philippines – Paolinne Michelle “Mich” Liggayu, one half of the popular YouTube duo Jamich, said that she is trying to be strong for fiance Jam Sebastian as he struggles with his lung cancer battle.

In an interview on Umagang Kay Ganda, Wednesday, February 4, Mich said that she tried to calm herself when Jam told his family in a message to consider mercy killing because he was having a hard time battling the cancer. (READ: Jamich: A love story for keeps)

“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang mararamdaman ko. Hindi siya agad nag-sink in sa akin. Pero nag-panic ang loob ko. Pero as much as possible tina-try ko maging calm. Tapos ni-replyan ko siya agad, sabi ko di ko alam ang gagawin ko. Nakaka-panic pero mag-pray tayo kay Lord sabi ko. Tina-try ko siyang i-comfort,” Mich said.

(I do not know what to feel. It did not sink in immediately. But I panicked. But as much as posible, I tried to be calm. I replied to him immediately and told I didn’t know what to do. I said, let’s pray to the Lord. I try to comfort him.)

According to Mich, they had to stop the chemotherapy sessions.

“This time po kasi hindi siya puwede i-chemo kasi sobrang hina ng katawan niya. Kaunti yung nutrients so nandoon lang siya para magpalakas.” (This time he cannot undergo chemotherapy because his body is very weak. He’s there to get stronger.)

“Ang hirap pong sabihin na lumalaban siya kasi lately kapag nagvi-visit ako sa hospital di ko na kayang magtagal kasi sobrang kapag tinitignan ko siya, parang di matanggap ng loob ko na nakikitang sobrang payat niya, yung mata niya lubog na. Parang sobrang panaginip lang,” she said.

(It’s hard to tell him to fight it because lately, when I visit him in the hospital, I cannot even stay very long because when I look at him, I feel like I cannot bear seeing him so thin, his eyes so sunken. It’s like a dream.)

Despite the struggle, Mich said that she’s planning a Valentine’s surprise for Jam.

On Instagram, Michelle also thanked former actress Jackie Forster and her daughter Caleigh for the inspiring message for Jam. Caleigh was diagnosed with leukemia but recovered last year.

 

“Aww thank you so much po Ms. @jackie_forster and our brave little angel Caleigh! I’ll let Jam watch your sweet message once he wakes up.  We’re also praying for you and mommy! You are such an inspiration! May God bless you more!” 

The couple rose to fame on YouTube through their channel ‘Jamich’ – an combination of Jam’s name and Paolinne’s second name Michelle.

The videos feature Jam and Mich in different scenarios, telling different types of love stories. They first posted them just for friends, but soon gained a passionate following.

Fans are also hoping that the enagaged couple’s wedding will still push through despite Jam’s condition. The two got engaged last year after Mich’s romantic proposal.
