Gail Banawis recalls how she got the important job

MANILA, Philippines – A 19-year-old Filipino-American from New York has been chosen by Manny Pacquiao to perform the Philippine national anthem on Saturday May 2 (Sunday, May 3) at the much-awaited Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in Las Vegas, USA.

In an interview with Rappler, she said that she’s always wanted to sing for Pacquiao, ever since she was little.

“I’ve always wanted to sing for Pacquiao, since maliit pa ako (I was small). Actually in the past, nag-audition ako (I auditioned), tapos due to complications, I wasn’t able to sing, pero (but) for this fight, he remembered me and considered me to go with the [singing] pastors,” she said.

She also said that she’s also extremely blessed for the opportunity.

“And it’s not any ordinary fight – it’s Pacquiao vs Mayweather, so of course, surprised but also extremely blessed at the same time,” she said.

Gail has opened for a number of local celebrities in their shows in the US, including Gabby Concepcion, Billy Crawford, and K Brosas.
