MANILA, Philippines – In preparation for the grand coronation night on November 29, pre-show activities for the Miss Earth candidates are in full swing. Representatives of the 85 countries participating in the main event are here in the Philippines to compete for the title of Miss Earth 2014. 

After the press presentation last November 10, The 85 candidates were divided into 3 groups. The girls went as far as Cebu, Palawan, and Batangas for the pre-pageant activities.  Before leaving to check out the beautiful places in the country, they took time to do school tours, and teach the students about preserving the planet. They also took part in an environmental seminar and mall tours.

This year, the talent, resort wear, cocktail wear, swimsuit and long gown competitions were held at different venues. As part of the competition, winning candidates were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, which will then be tallied.

Group 1 had their talent competition, cocktail, and evening gown competitions in Cebu, while the swimsuit portion was held at the Solaire Resort and Casino. The Resort Wear competition took place last Saturday, November 22 at the Carousel Productions office.

The activities of Group 2 meanwhile took place at the Oakwood Premier, Green Sun Hotel, and Landbank Auditorium. The group’s swimsuit and cocktail competitions took place in Coron, Palawan last Sunday, November 23.

Group 3 meanwhile held their activities at the Versailles Palace, Hotel Pontefino, Batangas and Crimson Hotel. The group’s talent competition took place in Tanauan, Batangas, Sunday, November 23. The Cocktail Wear competition was held at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas, Monday, November 24 The girls will end their activities with a fashion show at the Green Sun Hotel on Wednesday night, November 26.

All 85 girls got together again last November 25 for the national costume presentation at Green Sun Hotel. Unfortunately, the candidates from France and Portugal were not able to showcase their costumes due to health reasons.

Unlike previous years, the presentation was divided into the continents, with three winners each. This year, the delegates of South Africa, Panama, Indonesia and England won the national costume specal awards in their respective groups.

Friends, family, and diplomats were also present at the event to lend support to the ladies.

The event also saw the awarding of the 10 Best Eco videos by the Miss Earth Foundation as part of its 10th year anniversary. The special awards such as Miss Friendship and Miss Photogenic were also given that night.

With the competition a few days away, the girls are now making the best of their stay in the country with rehearsals and other activities in between.
