Netflix renews ‘Lucifer’ one last time for season 5

MANILA, Philippines – Guess we’re seeing our favorite fallen angel in hell again.

In bittersweet fashion, Netflix announced on Thursday, June 6, that the fantasy-comedy-drama Lucifer has been confirmed for a 5th but also final season.

As of Saturday, July 27, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the final season will now comprise of 16 episodes. Netflix has ordered an additional 6 to add to the initial 10-episode agreement.

“We’re thrilled that Lucifer fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a media statement, according to a Variety report. 

“We can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for.” 

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms,” Lucifer showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich gushed.

“Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come,” they added.

The series revolves around Lucifer (Tom Ellis), modern-day Satan, as he leaves Hell out of boredom to live amongst humans on Earth. Aside from running a nightclub, he also assists the Los Angeles Police Department on murder cases, alongside Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). 

Other cast members include Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, and Rachael Harris.

Lucifer, a DC/Vertigo TV adaptation, first aired on Fox in January 2016 for 3 seasons, until Netflix picked it up for its 4th in May 2019. The release date for its 5th season has not been confirmed. – Rappler.com
