MANILA, Philippines – The teaser trailer for The Crown season 3 is out, giving viewers their first real glimpse of Olivia Colman as the United Kingdom’s sovereign.

In the trailer, we see the Academy Award winner bringing that signature British deadpan manner to the screen, in a scene where the Queen’s staff is showing her a new portrait that no longer depicts her as a “young queen” – but “an old bat,” err, “settled sovereign.”

If the trailer is anything to go by, the upcoming season of The Crown will depict Queen Elizabeth’s internal struggle with growing old as it covers events that surrounded her reign in the 60s and 70s.

Olivia is taking over the role from Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons of the hit series. (READ: Binge-worthy: ‘The Crown’ season 2 is a lesson in regal restraint)

The upcoming season will feature an entirely new cast to depict the British royal family through the years. Tobias Menzies will be playing Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip, taking over the role from Matt Smith, while Helena Bonham Carter will play the queen’s sister Princess Margaret, taking over the role from Vanessa Kirby.

Season 3 will also introduce new characters, including one of the royal family’s most controversial figures: Princess Diana. She will be played by relative newcomer Emma Corrin.

The Crown season 3 will premiere on Netflix on November 17. – Rappler.com
