Peek back into the ‘Potter’ world with new post from JK Rowling

MANILA, Philippines – Harry Potter fans will know that though the last book came out in 2007, Harry and his friends are not really gone forever. The website Pottermore, an interactive space where fans can be sorted into one of the four houses and relive great moments from the book, is also full of tidbits about the Harry Potter universe, written by J.K. Rowling herself. 

Some of these tidbits include backstories of beloved characters like Hogwart transfiguration teacher Minerva McGonagall, and his defense against the dark arts teacher, Remus Lupin. 

A new Pottermore article covering the Quidditch World Cup, written by Rowling in the snide voice of wizarding world journalist Rita Skeeter, highlights some pieces of information about these favorite Potter heroes. 

The full article can be viewed via Today.com, but here are a few of these tidbits, which fans will undoubtedly savor: 

The piece is set years after the events of Voldemort’s defeat in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as Harry is about to turn 34.

From previous interviews, we know that former bully magnet-turned super cool Hogwarts teacher Neville Longbottom married Hannah Abbott and that they live above the Leaky Cauldron, a famous pub where Hannah is the landlady.

But the new Skeeter report is saying that Hannah has retrained as a Healer and is appyling for a job at Hogwarts. Fun fact from the gossip-loving Skeeter: “Idle gossip suggests that she and her husband both enjoy a little more Ogden’s Old Firewhisky than most of us would expect from custodians of our children.” 

Looks like Hermione is staying true to her over-achieving ways, as the article says that “After a meteoric rise to Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, she is now tipped to go even higher within the Ministry.” Skeeter wouldn’t be Skeeter of course, without a snide comment or two – she comments on Hermione’s hair, which has previously been described in the books as “bushy.” 

We get an update about Harry’s eccentric, quirky friend Luna Lovegood, who’s married to Rolf Scamander, the grandson of magizoologist Newt Scamander. The kids, Lorcan and Lysander, are “at home with grandpa” while Luna lurks around the area in “robes composed of the flags of all sixteen qualifying countries.” This is a cute throwback to Luna’s days cheering for Gryffindor – remember her big lion-head hat? 

Skeeter, of course, is known for telling tall tales and famously fabricating stories about Harry and his friends – most prominently in book four, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. But still, touches of her descriptions should provide fans a window back into the wizarding world that wasn’t easy to leave behind.  

Potter fans can look forward to more tidbits coming in through Pottermore – plus, there’s more to expect from the Potter world as the spin-off movie, featuring the aforemenioned Newt Scamander, is in the works.
