IN PHOTOS: The neon-lit Makati diner that will take you straight to ‘Riverdale’

MANILA, Philippines – For those who live for instagram-worthy corners, Filling Station’s new wing is a fluorescent fever dream come true.

The Poblacion instution recently expanded its 30-year-old diner, with the new area keeping Filling Station’s retro theme very much alive – except with the volume turned way up to 11. 

Like the older rooms, the new wing’s walls and ceilings are covered in curiosities from decades past: vintage posters, old vinyls, car parts, gasoline station signs, and other quirky whatnots. The checkerboard floors and red-and-white seats also help to sustain the old school atmosphere.

But the new version is covered in a wash of neon pink and purple lights – making it look just like Pop Tate’s diner in the broody teen drama Riverdale.

The main attraction is, of course, the shiny convertible taking up the place of honor in the center of the room – an actual 1959 Cadillac Eldorado that they had to lift by crane into the space.

The car’s interiors have been converted into a table – making it the perfect place to sip on the Filling Station’s creamy milkshakes (P280) but you’ll need to be in a group of at least 5 people to claim the coveted seats – and that’s if no one is already sitting there.

The good news is, the milkshakes taste just as good, no matter where you sit.

More importantly, the cadillac is open to anyone who wants to take the requisite selfies and OOTD shots – but if it’s occupied, you can rest assured knowing any other corner is almost as photogenic.

The neon lights make the place even more striking at night – though it is open 24 hours, so you can enjoy it any time – for some midnight sleuthing and scheming like Archie and the gang do, perhaps?
