LOOK: PH model Geena Rocero shines on the cover of 'Harper's Bazaar' India
MANILA, Philippines – US-based model and activist Geena Rocero is one of two transgender models on Harper's Bazaar India's October cover.
On Instagram, Geena said she was honored to share the cover with other personalities including Tyra Banks and Tracey Africa Norman, one of the first African-American transgender models.
"What a honor to share this [Harper's Bazaar India] cover with the legendary [Tracey Africa Norman], [Tyra Banks]," Geena said.
In total, there are 9 models featured on Harper's Bazaar India's October cover, which celebrates diversity. Geena, Tracey, and Tyra share the cover with Muslim model Hind Sahli, Belgian actress Hannelore Knuts, Korean model Soo Joo Park, Cora Emmanuel, sisters Daisy Clementine and Pyper America Smith, and Emanuela de Paula.
Geena, a Filipino transgender woman, is the founder Gender Proud, which aims to empower and uplift transgender communities around the world. Geena is also the first transgender model to walk the Bench Fashion show in 2014. (READ: Transgender model joins Bench's #NakedTruth fashion show)
According to an article on New York Magazine's "The Cut," Harper's Bazaar India's project was conceived by art director Christopher Sollinger, who was inspired to do the shoot after seeing Tracey's story.
Sollinger also told The Cut that this was the first time transgender models graced the cover of Harper's Bazaar. – Rappler.com
