MANILA, Philippines – Miss Globe 2015 Ann Lorraine Colis is back in the country after becoming the first Filipino to win the title. Ann, who hails from Pampanga, said she is still overwhelmed by the victory from the pageant last October 8 in Toronto, Canada.

“I’m overwhelmed and I’m overjoyed to share this victory to our country lalong-lalo na sa mga (especially) Filipinos all around the globe. So sana po maging proud kayo and masaya kayo na nasungkit natin yung kauna-unahang korona ngayon taon para atin, and I’m the first Filipina to win the Miss Globe title,” she told the press during the victory party at the Novotel in Cubao, Friday, October 16. As part of her responsibilities, Ann shared she will be traveling around the globe and charity work. 

“They have not exactly given me the itinerary for my reign but yung nalaman ko lang po is magtatravel po ako (what I know is I will travel to) I think LA, New York. So far iyon po yung mga nakalaan po para sa akin (that’s what that has been planned for me)… Albania and Dominican Republic.” 

Ann also shared with the press the question she was asked during the pageant.

“The question was ‘what qualities do women possess that makes them a great leader?’ Ang sabi ko (What I said is)  ‘the quality of a woman that makes a great leader is that she’s sensitive and nurturing. And she will decide based on her love combine with intelligence, making her a great leader,” she said.

Meanwhile Ann said that Bb Pilipinas International Janicel Lubina should not be pressured by her win. Janicel is set to fly on October 17 to Tokyo, Japan to compete in the Miss International pageant. “Hindi niya kailangan ma-pressure. Kung ako nga kinaya ko, paano pa kaya si Madam. Hindi lang siguro napalabas sa send-off video niya but I sent a video message to her na parang huwag siyang kabahan, kasi ako, sila kinakausap ko sila kapag kinakabahan ako, na stress ako sa pageant and then siya mismo ang nagpapagaan nang loob sa akin ‘that you just have to pray and leave it up to God,'” Ann said.

(She should not be pressured. If I did it, what more Janicel? It wasn’t shown during her send-off but I sent a video message to her, that she should not be nervous. Because I was talking to them, when I get nervous, I get stressed, and then she herself would be the one to cheer me up and boost my confidence, saying,’you just have to pray and leave it up to God.’)

Ann also said that she never felt like she was in another country because of the support given to her by the Filipino community in Canada. In fact, she said that one thing that the organizers saw about the Filipinos that set them apart was the support system.

“I think yung mga suporta ng mga (the support given by the) Filipinos. Kasi like what I’ve said, Filipinos are the best cheerleaders… Yung positivity, support na binibigay sa akin ng mga (given to me by the) Filipinos, yung love nila mas lalo akong ginaganahan (their love boosted my confidence)… the support and love for the beauty queens,” Ann said.

With Ann’s win, the expectations for the next beauty queens are now higher than ever. Aside from Janicel, Bb Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah is currently competing in the Miss Grand International in Bangkok, Thailand. – Rappler.com
