MANILA, Philippines – Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss and Miss World 2013 Megan Young led the the formal opening of the new pediatric hematology-oncology ward of the Philippine General Hospital Wednesday, February 18.

The two beauty queens were accompanied by Miss World chairperson Julia Morley, Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann and Miss World Philippines national director Cory Quirino.

In an interview with GMA 7’s Unang Balita, Rolene said she was happy to do something that is close to her heart.

“I really look forward to that, as health is my main passion and I’m really privileged for the opportunity to be able to do what I’m passionate about,”  Rolene said.

 

The pediatric hematology-oncology ward is the project of the Miss World’s program “Beauty with A Purpose.” Last June, Megan attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the center. She also took time to visit the kids at the PGH before she relinquished her title last December.

According to the Miss World website, the ward was made possible by the help of  Sta. Elena Construction & Development Corporation representative Alice Eduardo.

On Instagram, Megan and Valerie expressed their happiness over Rolene’s visit to the country.

Rolene is scheduled to fly to Sri Lanka for her next activities with the organization. –Rappler.com
