Ms PH Earth Tanza: Marie Bernadette Meneses
MANILA, Philippines - In line with the Miss Philippines Earth 2013 pageant's water conservation theme, this 21-year-old host says, "One of the biggest concerns is the sustainability of our water supply. It is important to educate communities in the Philippines on how to conserve water and use it wisely. We can promote this starting with local activities in our towns or barangays on how water should be treated and reused. Water is necessary for all life on Earth. We should manage our water resources well."
Describe your childhood/growing-up years (8-13 years old):
I focused on my academics and I was very much active in activities inside and outside the school. I was known as the bibo type of kid whom teachers would always want to join contests outside school. I had a lot of adventurous trips since my friends were also outgoing.
Most memorable moment:
I had always dreamt of becoming a newscaster since I was a kid, so when I became a sportscaster for ABS-CBN Sports for two consecutive years, it was really fulfilling. It was a blast!
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
My aim is to have a non-toxic environment. Our health is important as well as our natural resources which are essential to mankind so we need to take care of them. I am very much inspired by the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. This will not only eliminate the waste around us but through this simple method, we will be able to lessen land, air, and water pollution.
