The following is a press release from Called to Rescue and PhilAmThropy

CALIFORNIA, USA – During typhoon Ondoy and Haiyan, we saw the outpouring of support from many Filipinos overseas. However, weeks and months later, the activity slowed down and it was definitely not because we stopped caring.  There was no platform in place that allowed our kababayans abroad to reach out on a regular basis. But why wait before another disaster strikes before we reach out? Why not encourage new products made in the Philippines or help the next filmmaker develop the stories they want to tell? We all know Filipinos are talented and hard working and they just need the break and the nudge to get started.

PhilAmTHropy (PATH) is a crowd funding site which caters to projects made for or made by Filipinos. We coined the name PhilAmTHropy, by combining the words “philanthropy” (love for humanity) + “PhilAm” for Philippine Ambassadors.  The PATH team realized that some projects gets lost in translation and may not get the attention they deserve on big crowd funding platforms. Crowd funding is a new way to raise funds for a project by raising small amounts of money, starting at a dollar, with the support of the “crowd” via the internet. To date, PATH has successfully help fund 8 out of 10 projects. * (READ: Human trafficking a worry post-Yolanda)

About

PhilAmTHropy (PATH) is a California based crowd funding site for projects made for or made by Filipinos. The Philippines is the World’s third largest recipient of money remittances ($24 billion) with the US being the main source.  Filipinos are now considered the largest Asian minority in California and the largest ethnic group in Hawaii. There was no platform in place that served our niche and PATH’s goal is to showcase the many talent the Filipinos has to offer, and the world has yet to discover.
