CEBU, Philippines – The body of an 11-year-old boy who fell into a river during rainy weather in Barangay Valencia, Carcar City, was found on Sunday, July 3, a day after he went missing.

“Kids were swimming at the nearby waterfalls on the way home when the 11-year-old slipped off the 70-foot cliff, knocked his head, and landed in the water,” Cebu’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Balthazar Tribunalo Jr said in a text message to Rappler.

Search efforts began at 4 pm on Saturday afternoon, July 2, but rescuers had to suspend operations as the rains made conditions along the river more dangerous.

The boy’s cousin found the body at the location where he fell.

Tribunalo said the rainy weather made swimming in the area risky. – Rappler.com
