People of Dolores, Eastern Samar pick up the pieces as they rebuild their homes and start all over

EASTERN SAMAR, Philippines – At around 9:15 pm on Saturday, December 6, Typhoon Ruby/Hagupit made its first landfall in Dolores, Eastern Samar.*

Government officials, the military, and aid workers headed to Dolores but failed to get there due to impassable roads caused by landslides, flooding, and fallen trees.

There have been no reported casualties so far, but Mayor Emiliana Villacarillo said in a radio interview that most of the houses made of light materials were destroyed. Some 26 barangays in the upstream villages are still unreachable due to floods caused by the continuous rain.

Villacarillo said the town suffered 100% agriculture damage that will greatly affect Samar because Dolores is the top supplier of rice in the island. They have yet to get information from the fishing islands of Hilabaan and Tikling.

Here are images of the residents of Dolores recovering, rebuilding damaged homes, and starting all over.
