Visayas Globe, Smart networks at least 90% restored

MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom and Smart Communications announced restoration of at least 90% of both their networks in Visayas following the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). (READ: Telcos estimate fully restored services by yearend)

Globe Telecom said in a statement that call and text services in most areas of Leyte, Samar, and Biliran are now available.

The company said 90% of its 2G-enabled sites in Visayas are already up and running while 88% of its 3G sites in the region are now operational.

Globe is also speeding up its rehabilitation of a relay site in Eastern Samar, which will provide cellular coverage for the entire province upon completion.

Globe’s services have been restored in the following locations:

• Leyte: Abuyog, Mahaplag, Julita, MacArthur, and Suhi
• Northern Samar: San Isidro, Biri, and Las Navas
• Biliran: Culaba
• Aklan: Balete, Batan, Cuartero, and Dumalag 
• Samar: Cabiga and Tagapul-an 
• Eastern Samar: Dolores 
• Capiz: Jamindan
• North Cebu: Odlot

In a separate statement, Smart reported that it has restored 94% of network services in Visayas.

Among the locations where services have been recently restored are Kawayan in Biliran; the municipalities of Dolores, Llorente, Maydolong, San Julian, San Policarpio and Sulat in Eastern Samar; and the municipality of San Jose de Buan in Samar.

According to Smart, network services in the towns and municipalities of Antique, Bohol, Cebu, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Southern Leyte have been fully restored. – Rappler.com
