MANILA, Philippines – A retured Department of Education (DepEd) official in Zamboanga Sibugay was kidnapped along with her grandson on Sunday, September 6.

According to initial police reports, Isabel Agpawa Muyargas, 68, a retired DepEd district supervisor, along with her grandson Ismael Kyle Muyargas Hamad, 5, were abducted by 5 unidentified men from their home in Brgy Bangkerohan in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, at around 11:30 am.

The two victims were inside their home when the kidnappers barged in and forced them to a waiting motorboat at the Bocana River, around 50 meters away. The group then fled towards the sea, the police report said.

The kidnappers were carrying arms of unknown caliber, the police report added.

Police personnel then engaged in a hot pursuit operation, as well as house-to-house inspections.
