MANILA, Philippines – Here’s a title you’d never thought boxing champion Manny Pacquiao would have: Bible Ambassador.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will enlist the Sarangani representative as a “Bible Ambassador,” to strengthen the Roman Catholic Church’s Biblical apostolate in the country.
This was announced by the CBCP at the end of their 104th plenary assembly in Manila, the CBCP News said.
“Manny has always been very religious and we are happy that he is deepening his faith and his understanding of the Bible… that’s why I asked him if he could partner with us in promoting the reading of the Bible among Catholics,” said Pampanga Auxiliary Bishop Pablo David, chair of the conference’s Commission on Biblical Apostolate.
David also told CBCP News that the boxer’s popularity will help promote Bible readership.
They are also planning to have other celebrities as endorsers for their campaign, he said.
The Philippine population is around 70% Catholic. – Rappler.com
