PNoy appoints new CA justice

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang announced on Monday, February 6, the appointment of Marilyn Barua-Yap as the new associate justice of the Court of Appeals.

Also appointed as judges are Jacob M. Montesa II (Branch 80 in Muntinlupa City) and Jean Susan Desuasido Gill (Branch 79 in Las Pinas City).

A Palace statement said Yap graduated cum laude from UP College of Cebu, before earning her law degree from the University of San Carlos. She has been in government for almost 27 years, according to the Palace.

Judge Montesa, on the other hand, is an experienced litigator, having worked for the Public Attorneys Office before becoming a prosecutor for Las Pinas City, the statement added.

Judge Gill took up her Master of Laws at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She worked in the private sector before getting appointed as Clerk of Court of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court.

“We are confident that they will stand with the banner of integrity and professionalism in the judiciary, and contribute to the reforms that we are laying out in every branch of government,” the Palace said in the statement. – Rappler.com
