SINGAPORE – President Rodrigo Duterte squeezed in a visit to Orchard Road to do some window-shopping during his trip here, to the delight of Filipinos he encountered.

Duterte and his large security entourage went around Ion Orchard on Thursday night, December 16, surprising both Filipinos and Singaporeans doing their night shopping.

The President was also accompanied by Special Assistant Bong Go and Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio Morales.

Duterte apparently wanted to buy a charger for his black Apple watch, Go told Rappler. President dropped by the an Apple Store and several wrist watch stores.

As he passed by establishments, Filipinos working as waiters raised their clenched fists, a gesture associated with Duterte.

Filipinos also grabbed the rare opportunity to have their photos taken with the Philippine leader.

On his way out, Duterte dropped by a Starbucks where patrons waved at him. Unfortunately, he did not make any purchase at the mall that night.

The President went to the mall after the state banquet held in his honor at the Istana where he met with Singapore President Tony Tan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

After the official event, he went to the hotel and then headed for the mall, said Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella.
