MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) unloaded some 1,000 passengers at the Araneta Center-Cubao Station on Tuesday, May 22.

The glitch ended the 28-day no-breakdown streak of the railway system.

According to MRT3 management, the door failure could have been caused by passengers leaning on the door or forcing it open. The management reminded the public to refrain from doing these.

MRT3 communications officer Aly Narvaez told reporters that the railway system’s management is committed to keeping it glitch-free.

“Pero dahil umabot tayo sa 28 consecutive days na walang unloading, na record-breaking po sa kasaysayan ng MRT3 operations, patunay naman po siguro ito na epektibo ang preventive, remedial, at mitigation measures natin sa MRT3 kontra aberya,” Narvaez told reporters.

(Because we reached 28 consecutive days without unloading, which is record-breaking in the history of MRT3 operations, it is proof that our preventive, remedial, and mitigation measures for the MRT3 are effective.)

She said, however, that despite the improvements, breakdowns cannot be completely avoided.

After the general maintenance of trains back in March, the MRT3 currently runs as many as 18 trains, compared to as few as 6 trains last February. (LOOK: MRT3 begins general maintenance of trains)

Daily ridership has gone up to 370,000 passengers.
