Authorities say the suspect Dean Torrefranca’s motive was a property dispute with his stepson Jedd Ybañez.

According to interviews with local media livestreamed on Facebook, authorities say Jimmy Bartilic, the barangay captain, tried to go to  help settle the dispute, but was shot and killed upon arriving at Torrefranca’s home at around 11 am.

He engaged police in a shootout before setting his own house on fire.
