MANILA, Philippines – Weeks after he was suspended for a controversial comic strip, Pugad Baboy creator Pol Medina Jr is still apologetic.

In a Google Hangout on Rappler, he admitted something went wrong. But he did not apologize for his brand of humor.

Eto na talaga yung style nung humor mo eh. Bakit mo papalitan pa para lang… dahil lang sa isang insidente?” he said, when asked if his experience with the Philippine Daily Inquirer affected the way he tells his jokes.

(This is my brand of humor. Why would I change it over one incident?)

It’s a brand of humor that has survived, evolved, and thrived over the past 25 years. The secret to success? Honesty.

Lahat naman ng comedy based sa truth eh. May tinatawag kasi na immersion. Kailangan ma-experience mo talaga,” he said.

(Comedy is based on truth. It’s called immersion, you need to experience it before you can joke about it.)

Medina later resigned from the Inquirer, telling its editor-in-chief Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc he was sorry for the “dishonor.” -Rappler.com
