NPA fighters kill 2 soldiers in Agusan del Sur
MANILA, Philippines – Two soldiers were killed in a clash with New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, Saturday afternoon, June 22, the Philippine Army said.
Lieutenant Col. Leo Bongosia, spokesman of the Army's 4th Infantry Division, said troops from the 26th Infantry Brigade encountered about 15 rebels in the vicinity of Barangay Maliwanag at around 4 pm.
The encounter occurred just days after communist rebels killed 5 workers of Shannalyne Corporation in the same town.
The Philippine Army has yet to identify the two slain soldiers.
